This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to push yourself, learn new skills and survive the extreme cold of the polar regions.
Over the first 4 days you'll learn all the skills necessary to progress to the 3 day expedition into the Finish Laplands while pulling a sled with all your camping equipment, food, clothing etc.
This 9 day expedition will leave Ireland on February 22nd 2015 and return on Monday the 2nd March 2015. This gives us 7 days in Finland. The expedition will be based in the Totavaara Lodges. Accommodation is provided here in hostel style rooms. All catering is provided but we expect participants to pitch in and help.
We're teamed up with gohop.ie, our travel partners, who will be looking after our travel logistics to get us to and from Finland. Bookings for this expedition are made through them.
Full cost for this expedition is €1,960 (price update: 5th Dec 14- we've sourced lower cost flights for this expedition which will reduce the price from €1,960 to €1,400 + flights, approx: €400 - limited availability at this rate- contact us asap for details) this includes almost everything you will need for the 9 days; flights, accommodation, catering, ski hire, sled hire, tuition, camping equipment hire, specialist cold weather equipment: down jackets, sleeping bag etc. You can pay for this expedition in instalments.
Day 1 Depart Dublin Airport, 3 flights will land us about 90 minutes from our expedition base. Arrival late evening
Day 2 Ski and boot fitting, basic skills session.
Day 3 Progression from basic skills to hill climbing and descending.
Day 4 Longer day spend on the skis, also practice session pulling sleds.
Day 5 Morning: Advanced skills with sled. Afternoon: packing and prep for expedition.
Day 6 Commence 3 Day Expedition.
Day 7 Day 2 of Day Expedition.
Day 8 Return early afternoon to expedition base
