Want to take your navigation confidence up a notch? If you’re a beginner or experienced then we can take your night navigation to the next level.
Your instructor, Ronan Mullen, has 23 years experience leading and teaching in the mountains both at home and abroad. Add to that 20+ of experience with a very busy mountain rescue team and holding the professional International Mountain Leader qualification means that you’ll learn from an expert.
There are two options
Level 1 Night Navigation is ideal for those with little to no night navigation experience. Maybe you’ve completed your Mountain Skills training and want to keep your skills sharp or you’re going for assessment. Ideal also for those that have some experience in navigation but lack the confidence in poor conditions or at night. You should have a basic understanding of maps: contours, scale, features. You should also know how to take a take and follow basic bearings. Ratio 1:6.
Level 2 Night Navigation Master Class is designed for experienced navigators. Perfect for those that are working towards or through their Mountain Leader qualification. You’ll have navigated before at night or poor conditions. This Master Class will introduce you to the zen of navigation and bring your confidence to a much higher level! You should be proficient at taking and following bearings, pacing, map interpretation. We hit the ground running on this course! Ratio 1:4.
What you’ll need to bring:
Roughly 6:30pm, depending on sunset.
For Level 1 you need to have the basic skills. For Level 2 it’s essential that you can take and follow bearings, understand map detail and know how to pace.
No! We recommend that you attend out Mountains Skills training first.
Level 1: 6 participants per instructor
Level 2: 4 participants per instructor
