Norway is an ideal location for this winter skills course, unlike Scotland, we are guaranteed very good levels of snow. Norway also gives us vast areas of wilderness and a stunning landscape to top it all of!

Access is reasonably easy with flights to Oslo, we pick up from there and transfer to our base which about 4 hours drive away.

We provide all in-country logistics for you include airport transfers, accommodation and catering.

We also include all technical kit hire:

  • Ice axe & crampons
  • Helmet
  • Avalanche transceiver
  • Avalanche probes
  • Snow shovel
  • Arctic sleeping bag and Thermarest
  • Down jacket and mitts if required

The group will be lead by highly qualified and experienced International Mountain Leaders who love to share their passion for the mountains.

Winter skills course Norway: Who’s for it

Fit outdoors people who love the mountains and are eager to take their skills to the next level. Fitness is important as we’ll be spending 5 days in the mountains.

We also include a Zoom briefing for all participants in advance along with ongoing support and assistance.

There are no hidden extras – all specialist equipment hire is included: technical kit, in-country transport, catering etc.

Our course will be based in a cabin in south east Norway. Accommodation is in shared rooms and we ask that everyone assists with daily house chores. Our chef will be looking after the food and we promise- you will not go hungry!

We will spend one night in a snowhole.

We’ll provide you with a full kit list. All participant receive a 15% discount on purchases in our store in advance of departure.

How many days is the course?

This course is 7 days in duration. This gives us 2 days travelling and 5 days in the mountains.

Do participant need experience?

Hillwalking experience is necessary, you do need a good level of fitness. The five days in the mountains are hard and sometimes long. Winter Skills Course Norway.

What kit do participants need?

We’ll provide a full kit list in advance. Each participant will need full winter kit, it will be cold! We’ll provide the technical kit.

How many participants will there be?

We have space for 12 participants on our Winter Skills Course Norway.

What do the fees include?

The expedition fees are €1,890pp/£1,750pp. This includes:

What sort of conditions can I expect?

This part of Norway receives a lot of snow. Temperatures range from -10 to +5, windchill will obviously bring that temperature down again. A lot of the ground we are on is exposed to the elements.

Is altitude an issue?

No, the highest peaks in this part of Norway are about 2,000m.

Are avalanches a problem?

They are only a problem if we can’t read the ground and heed the warnings. Avoiding avalanches will be a big part of this course.

What is high camp like?

High camp will be located next to a high mountain refuge where we have access to basic toilet and shower facilities. We will be in a sheltered valley but the nights will still be cool.

What is not included in the price?

Flights, you can arrange these yourself or we can have our travel partner. The extra kit as per the kit list. If you’re missing anything we can advise on how to best purchase, any extra tours etc. Any extra tours that participants choose to take outside of the Expedition Skills Course. You fly to Oslo and we transport you from there to our base for the week.

I’ve found a cheaper course elsewhere

You certainly will find cheaper courses out there but dig into the detail and you’ll see that not all courses were created equal. We provide almost everything for your course- all specialist equipment hire: ice axes, crampons, avalanche transceivers, snow shovels, -26 arctic sleeping bags, down jackets, mitts etc etc. We also provide ALL in country transport, accommodation along with highest quality catering. To top it all off we guarantee you’ll have an amazing week with instructors who are passionate about what they do and sharing their experience with you. We only run this course once or twice a year so don’t miss out.

Do I need additional insurance?

It is essential that all participants take out additional travel insurance for the trip. This should cover repatriation to UK/Ireland and rescue fees. Your insurance must list Norway as a destination and have trekking as an activity. Let us know if you need details on insurance companies. We also advise that you apply for your EHIC (formally E11).
